June Monthly Wrap-Up

Starting today, I will give you a monthly wrap-up not only on books I have finished reading, but also other things that happened to me and to this blog. That way, you guys will be [unwillingly] updated on how interesting my life is. Well, the first half of the year went so swiftly and I am happy to report that I have finished my 2013 Reading Challenge. Hooray! Since it is only July, I decided to increase the number of books in my goal. Shall we see how many titles my huge eyes read for the last month?

Books read: 12

Never Fall by Brodi Ashton

neverfall

Rating: 5/5

I love this novella in the Everneath series. No matter how bad Cole was portrayed in the other books, I still prefer him than Jack. It is nice to read his perspective.

Everbound by Brodi Ashton

everbound

Rating: 5/5

I am inspired because of this book. It made me envy the couple because they have each other who are both willing to go to such lengths to show their love.

The Boy who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley

the boy who sneaks in my bedroom window

Rating: 2/5

This book has a high rating in Goodreads that’s why I was encouraged to read it. However, I was almost tempted not to finish it. I was surprised by the skill of the author (or the lack thereof) and the positive reviews she got. I felt like reading a diary of a grade school girl obsessed with her crush. The hero was portrayed oh too perfect while the heroine was forever a damsel-in-distress. There were too many wrongs in this novel that I tried to get to the last page as soon as possible just to say that I had, at least, patience.

Because You’re Mine (Capital Theatre #2) by Lisa Kleypas

because you're mine

Rating: 4/5

I should’ve found this book earlier! I so love the story between Logan and Lady Madeline. Even though Logan is such a jerk in most parts of the story, I like how their relationship turned out in the end. Because of this novel, I remembered my acting days. Yes, I was part of the school theater! J

Somewhere I’ll find you (Capital Theatre #1) by Lisa Kleypas

somewhere i'll find you

Rating: 4/5

Of course, since I loved one part of the series, I was encouraged to read the rest. Weird that I started on the second instead of the first. Correcting myself, I went back and read the unique story of Julia and Damon. They were both married when they were still young, but managed to stay away from each other for years. Fate played on their lives and they soon found themselves crossing each other’s path. How romantic!

Stealing Parker by Miranda Keneally

stealing parker

Rating: 3/5

I was excited to read another novel by Miranda, but was disappointed when I finished this book. It was sport-themed like Catching Jordan, but it lacked the drama the first part of the series had. The storyline was also shallow and predictable, though there are some interesting and funny points. I hope that Miranda will be able to continue writing with the same level and intensity as that of Catching Jordan.

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers #1) by Lisa Kleypas

secrets of a summer night

Rating: 5/5

This is my first time to read a novel about the wallflowers. I have a deep connection with them and perhaps that’s one of the reasons why I enjoyed reading this first installment. It was refreshing. I smiled when some truths about wallflowers were mentioned and I actually agreed to most. Ha, like the author was describing me and not her characters!

It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers #2) by Lisa Kleypas

it happened one autumn

Rating: 4/5

Wallflowers must stick together. For some, it may sound funny, but for those ladies who spent every evening in balls and parties sitting on a chair, it was friendship. After their first success with Anabelle, they continued working together to find a match for the next wallflower in line. This story is funny in its own way as two American heiresses tried their hardest to inject themselves in English society which manners are different from them.

Devil in Winter (Wallflowers #3) by Lisa Kleypas

devil in winter

Rating: 3/5

I was caught off-guard when this book started. It began so wrong that I internally screamed, “No, don’t be stupid!” Good thing Evie, the heroine, made a wise choice in the end. Shown as an antagonist in the second installment, Sebastian proved to be the perfect man for Evie. It was a feel good read. Nothing so special, but brought nice feelings after.

Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers #4) by Lisa Kleypas

scandal in spring

Rating: 4/5

After the three wallflowers found themselves a husband thanks to their collective effort, it was Daisy’s time to get a love match. However, her rich father became impatient with the lack of proposal to his second child that he threatened to marry her to his protégé, a man Daisy dislikes. However, it turned out that Matthew was not the same man she thought he was and she soon found herself wondering. What if?

Wait for You by Jennifer Armentrout

wait for you

Rating: 5/5

From the author of the Lux series, a paranormal YA series I love, I had high expectations for this one. I was afraid Armentrout would ruin my previous experience with her writing. To my relief, the novel turned it too well. The author was like transformed to another being by the way she wrote and her characters spoke and acted in this new adult novel. It was very entertaining to read. I felt like being in a rollercoaster with various emotions and confusions entangled with the amusement ride and felt satisfied when it ended.

Mine Til Midnight by Lisa Kleypas

mine til midnight

Rating: 3/5

It was funny that the characters from the Wallflower series are also included in this one. Cam, a gypsy I loved in the first series, found his match in Mine Til Midnight. It warmed my heart to have Cam such a beautiful story. Even before, gypsies are not well treated by the public so it was nice of Lisa Kleypas to create a series starring a gypsy. I learned some things about their customs and beliefs and I hope the next books in the series are the same!

Those are the twelve books I have read for the month of June. For other things, I recently had my site self-hosted and moved out from a free WordPress.com account to a WordPress.org one. I am still finishing my draft for my lengthy explanation on what I did during the transition. Please stay tuned!

On more nerdy stuff, I got a new pair of eyeglasses! My eyesight became poorer and you can check the entire story here.

As for my giveaways, one was recently concluded and a lucky winner was already drawn. Her information and contact details are currently being verified and once done, an announcement will be posted in this site. On the other hand, I am hosting a summer giveaway for a huge online store. PersunMall is giving a chance for one out of 60 giveaway participants to win his/her choice of clothing from the shop. The more participants, the more winners will be drawn. Moreover, one lucky entry will win a $100 GC to be spent in the store. A very generous treat to all of you, right?

Please continue supporting me as I continuously try to bring the best to you my lovely readers. I hope that I will be able to entertain, educate, and interest you enough that you will keep coming back here. I am devising an incentive promo soon, so watch out for that.
